Memory and public uses of the past in Europe: international seminar
Lens, grèves du Nord / Auteur - Agence Rol. BnF/Gallica.fr

This long-running seminar is a place for reflection on the diverse approaches that constitute memory as an object of the social sciences and it aims to test their validity on varying empirical fields. The seminar focuses first on theoretical traditions and disciplines seized with the question of memory and, second, on the chronology and contemporary issues of the memory phenomenon in each country examined. The objective is to shed light on the gaps, but also the common points and the circulation of these different approaches.
Intended for an international audience and mobilizing different scholars from different European countries at each session, this filmed seminar is, in Paris, a site of reference for the discussion of the themes of memory and the institutionalization of heritage. Thus, it constitutes a natural site for presenting results from several cluster projects to a wider audience.
